Reports from Day Two of the APSCo Hong Kong Trade Delegation

Posted by APSCo on January 23, 2013

The team in Hong Kong is certainly enjoying the APSCo Trade delegation which began yesterday. The first official evening of the delegation was spent enjoying a fabulous ten course Chinese banquet in a truly authentic and traditional Chinese restaurant where no English was spoken and the menus all in Cantonese. Fortunately we had help from our generous sponsors CXC Global to translate for us!

Following a fantastic meal and a good night’s sleep, the second day proved to be a real success, kicking off with a very informative morning at the consulate. All the delegates involved now know all about taxation in Hong Kong (which is much lower than the UK), employment law (much less stringent than in the UK) and what it’s really like to live and work in Hong Kong from an ex pat who’s been here most of his life (much better than the UK).In fact, we might all be staying here!

Tonight we have our client networking reception at the Consulate where the staff have been incredibly helpful and accommodating. The delegates are looking forward to meeting some of their prospective clients and, who knows, they may even do some business!

Check back tomorrow for more exciting updates from Hong Kong!

Should your business be in China?

Posted by APSCo on April 17, 2012

As part of our on-going commitment to help members identify the best new business opportunities both nationally and internationally, we have announced this year’s Trade Delegation to Beijing and Shanghai between 18th and 21st June.

This follows on from last year’s highly successful delegation to Singapore which resulted in a number of recruitment consultancies opening new offices in the region. And with China being THE great economic success story of the past 30 years choosing this region was an obvious choice.

There are currently over 49,000 recruitment companies in China – and with a population of 1,338,299,512, this equates to 27,312 people per recruitment Company – the opportunities for high quality professional recruitment companies is, therefore, vast!

As with previous events, the delegation will be jointly hosted with UK Trade & Investment and is fully supported by both the British Embassy in Beijing and the British Consulate General in Shanghai.

For further information please see the event brochure which details a full itinerary and associated costs. I look forward to seeing some of you in China!

Good news for SME recruiters

Posted by APSCo on March 13, 2012

We always like to know that the work we do adds real value to our members and the wider recruitment sector. And a recent Trade Association Forum (TAF) with speaker Adam Jackson, the Enterprise Director for BIS, appears to confirm that we’re not doing too badly!

Jackson, in his speech, outlined some key issues facing UK SMEs – particular those that were seen as obstacles to growth. Namely: Leadership & Management skills; finance and cash flow; export, technology & innovation and skills & recruitment.  After digesting what Jackson had to say, it occurred to us that there is, in fact, a real synergy between those growth obstacles and what we are doing with our members to tackle these issues.  So what are we doing?
